Pikeville, Kentucky, only barely escaped violence on Saturday as anti-fascist (Antifa) demonstrators confronted crowds of white supremacists that came to their town for a rally.

The event was organized by members of the country’s biggest neo-Nazi groups Traditionalist Workers Party, the League of the South and the National Socialist Movement, in a bid to appeal to the predominantly white population of the town. But many residents seemed shocked that their hometown was picked for such an event.

“We have no clue why they would even pick Pikeville,” said Elizabeth White, who has lived in Pikeville for about 50 years, as cited by Vocativ. “Why don’t they go disrespect their own homes, their own people, their own families?”

Left-wing groups from across the South took to social media to urge supporters to gather in Pikeville and disrupt the rally, called ‘Take A Stand For White Working Families.’

The event lasted about three hours. More than a hundred white nationalists were present, many them dressed in black and waving American and Confederate flags while giving the Nazi salute.

Residents feared the event would spark violence, especially since Kentucky is an Open Carry state with reciprocity, meaning that if someone has an open carry permit in another state they can also carry a weapon legally in Kentucky. However, nobody was hurt and the two groups seemed to be limited to yelling profanity at each other, while local and state police maintained a heavy presence.

Сity officials took all necessary steps to avoid violent clashes. On Monday the city commission issued an emergency ordinance and prohibited people in the downtown area during the rally from wearing hoods and masks that could conceal protesters’ identities. The police in riot gear were very successful in keeping the opposing sides separated. All these factors contributed to the relatively non-violent confrontation, and as the rally concluded, the nationalists left Pikeville in a motorcade of about 30 vehicles protected by police.

Final Reminder: International Workers Day/Day Without Immigrants Rally Tomorrow, May 1, 5:30-8 pm, in Guadalupe Plaza
Dear Sisters and Brothers,
This is a final reminder that the International Workers Day/ Day Without Immigrants Rally will be held tomorrow, Monday, May 1, 2017, 5:30-8:00  pm, at Guadalupe Plaza, 2311 Runnels Street, in Houston. This event will highlight the historic achievements and contemporary struggles of workers of all nationalities and also emphasize the imperative need for solidarity with our immigrant sisters and brothers, who are increasingly under attack. Working class, this is your cause! Join us!

The Rally will include some very special guest speakers, speakers from sponsoring organizations, poets/spoken word artists, music, banners and signs, chants, and the dramatic smashing of a Donald Trump piñata. This event is being organized by and for workers, whose labor makes life, society, and aspirations for a better future possible. Workers of all backgrounds are welcome. There will be no government officials or politicians on the platform.

Together, we will demand: Unite against Trump! Stop the deportations! Stop racist police terror! Black and Brown lives matter! Defend the Muslim community! Stop the attacks on women and the LGBT communities! Fight for $15/hour minimum wage, jobs for all, and the right to a union! Housing, health care, education, and retirement security for all! Stop the rise of fascism! End U.S. imperialist wars! Stop the destruction of Mother Earth! End capitalism before it ends us!

The Rally is part of a much larger set of actions across the country. A national coalition has called for a strike on May 1, and we encourage workers not to go to work, not to go to school, and not to go shopping tomorrow. In addition, a four-day boycott of Walmart will run through tomorrow, and there is an ongoing boycott of Wells Fargo over its role in the DAPL. We strongly support these actions, and we hope you will, too.

This Rally is being sponsored by Asamblea Popular de Houston, Brown Berets de TejAztlan, Freedom Road Socialist Organization, Houston Communist Party, Houston Socialist Movement, International Alliance in Support of Workers in Iran-Canada, International Socialist Organization, Latinos Inmigrantes Triunfadores, MORENA-Houston SW, Organizacion Latino Americana Pro-Derecho Del Inmigrante, Party for Socialism and Liberation, People’s New Black Panther Party, and Students for a Democratic Society. We also look forward to the participation of many other organizations.

Parking will be available in the section of the Talento Bilingue Houston parking lot adjacent to South Jensen Street (not the rest of the TBH parking lot) and in the FiTMiX Yoga and Latin Fitness Studio parking lot at 2311 Canal Street. Restrooms will be available in TBH. If you would like more information or have any last-minute questions, please call us at 832.692.2306, 713.447.4106, 832.660.3084, or 281.935.9248.

Trump is a MOAB (Mother of all Bullies)

By James Thompson

The most reactionary sector of the US population still clings to its unquestioning admiration of President MOAB. It is uncertain what the acronym MOAB stands for, i.e. is it “Mother of all Bullies, Mother of all Buffoons, Mother of all Bunglers, Mother of all Burglars, or just Mother of all Bombs (as in bombed presidencies)?

It is really not funny, since this outrageous excuse for a leader moves the US closer and closer to all out war. If he crosses the line, millions will die for sure and we can be sure it will not be the bourgeois class that will perish. We can be sure it will be working class people in this country and around the world “as it is, has been but does not always have to be.”

The only way to avert total disaster would be for the working class to seize political power and jettison the scoundrels who throw the masses onto the funeral pyre in order to maximize their profits.

Working people should speak with one voice and oppose the bourgeois machinations and inter-bourgeois struggle to control the earth and its resources while poisoning the environment.

Working people in the US missed a great opportunity in the 2016 elections to turn the tide of history in the favor of the working class. Instead of uniting and fighting for a progressive, they split and catapulted one of the worst reactionaries into world leadership since the pudgy demagogue with a funny hairdo from Austria was allowed to assume office in Germany.

Hopefully, President MOAB will provide motivation to working people to learn about struggle, including political struggle and do what is necessary to propel the people of the earth towards sanity.

NO TO WAR WITH NORTH KOREA! NO TO IMPERIALIST INTERVENTION IN THE MIDDLE EAST! NO TO WAR WITH RUSSIA AND CHINA! NO TO WAR ON THE WORKING CLASS!

‘Free from fascism!’ Police step in after protesters disrupt nationalist march in Poland (VIDEOS)
Warsaw police removed a group of anti-fascist protesters, who had attempted to stage a sit-in along the route of a far-right march involving nationalists, and cordons were required throughout the Polish capital to keep apart the two groups.

Several hundred mostly male demonstrators set out across the Polish capital holding national flags, and banners of the National Radical Camp (ONR), to whose 83rd anniversary the march was dedicated.

ONR was a popular far-right movement that sprung up in the volatile inter-war period, and controversy still rages over whether it was fascist, and its ideological links with Nazi Germany and Mussolini’s Italy.
The organization was revived after the fall of communism, by the current demonstrators, who told local media before the rally that they “bear the flame of hope for the revival of the ideals of national Catholic Polish state.”

As the march proceeded, counter-protesters on both sides of the street screamed: “Poland, free from fascism!”

“Death to the enemies of the homeland,” went up a chant from the nationalist marchers in response.

A particularly determined band of anti-fascists holding a banner broke through the police barrier, and sat down in the middle of the road, before being removed by officers who handcuffed them.

“Fascists and the police, you’re in this together,” they chanted, as they were taken away.

According to the police, two people were detained for attacking police officers, but there were no reports of direct clashes, as the nationalists were allowed to complete their march.

MESSAGE OF TRADE UNIONS AGAINST THE IMPERIALIST WAR

https://communismgr.blogspot.com/2017/04/message-of-trade-unions-against.html
MESSAGE OF TRADE UNIONS AND TRADE UNIONISTS.
AGAINST THE IMPERIALIST WAR.
With the workers of all countries, for a world without exploitation, wars, and refugees.
This 1st of May we are in the eye of the imperialist storm. The outbreaks of armed conflicts are spreading through from Ukraine to the Black Sea, the Balkans, the Aegean Sea and the Eastern Mediterranean, the Middle East and North Africa.
Powerful forces are involved in the competitions, such as the United States, the EU, Russia with the active participations of the governments of our countries in for the control of oil, natural gas, the roads of energy transfer, markets, in the interest of the monopoly groups.
The war in Syria, which has claimed the lives of hundreds of thousands of people and turned millions of others into refugees, is the result of intra-imperialist competitions, a multiform imperialist intervention. It shows how capitalism, which increases the wealth for a “handful” of exploiters, at the same time, it creates crisis, social problems, war, refugees, with devastating consequences for millions of workers.
The imperialists divide the world with the blood of the people; they create nationalist rivalries among the peoples.
The Balkans have experienced the bloody and destructive dissolution of countries by imperialist war, the change of borders.
NATO army and fleet spread over from the Baltic to the Balkans, the Black Sea, the Aegean Sea, the Mediterranean, defending the interests of this “alliance of wolves”, the interests of its monopolies in the area against their competitors.
The all-out attack which condemns the working classes in every country in unemployment, poverty and misery, is the one side of the coin of class policy.
The other side is the unfair imperialist war, which they wage in the interests of large monopoly groups.
Faced with the possibility of a widespread military conflict in our region, we build a wall of protection for the working class of our countries, for our people, in joint action and solidarity between the peoples and with the Trade Unions in the first line of this fight.
We fight for all of our rights, demanding the satisfaction of the contemporary needs of working-class families. We are fighting against exploitation and against our exploiters.
This fight is inextricably connected with the fight against any participation of our countries in the war prepared by our exploiters with their power, their governments and their alliances with USA – NATO – EU, against the workers in other countries.
The bourgeoisie promotes their class interest for profits as “national interest” both in times of “peace” and war.
We will not bleed for their profits; we will not become meat in their cannons.
There is nothing to divide among the working classes of other countries, among other people. On the contrary, we are united by the common interest of fighting for a life without riches and poverty, without bosses, this is the life that belongs to us.
That is why we are fighting for:
  • No involvement in the imperialist interventions and wars outside the borders. No involvement in the slaughterhouses of NATO and the EU.
  • Closure of all foreign military bases. NATO Out from the Aegean Sea and the Balkans.
  • No involvement in any capitalist political-military alliance.
  • Against the change of borders and the change of treaties that guarantee them.
  • Against the abolition of trade unions rights and other freedoms.
  • We say no to war expenditure for military action outside the borders, we demand funding to satisfy the needs of the working class, of workers’ families.
  • Against nationalism, racism, chauvinism.
  • Solidarity with refugees, migrants, solidarity to all people.
We Do Not Stand Behind The Foreign And Hostile To Us Flag Of The Capitalists And Their Allies. We Raise The Flag Of The Interests Of The Working Class.
We Are Fighting Against The Unjust Wars, To Eliminate What Causes Them.
Solidarity Is The Weapon Of Peoples.
